The Chief Estimator oversees the Estimating team and is responsible for detailed pricing for bid quotations and packages. This role involves preparing cost estimates for manufacturing, construction projects, or services to assist management in bidding or price determination.


  • Collect historical cost data to estimate costs for current or future products.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, and personnel to discuss estimates and resolve issues.
  • Prepare estimates for management to plan, organize, and schedule work.
  • Analyze blueprints and other documents to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on cost estimates.
  • Review contract and bid documents to understand project scope for turnover.
  • Attend walk-throughs, pre-bid, and scope clarification meetings.
  • Perform design/build, conceptual, and budget estimates.
  • Coordinate junior staff in performing take-offs and obtaining subcontractor quotes.
  • Escalate critical issues to the Preconstruction Manager with resolution recommendations.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by executives.
  • Develop budget estimates using plans, specifications, or conceptual information.
  • Examine plans and specifications to determine special features or unique requirements.
  • Review job sites or plans to establish material quantities.
  • Complete bids in a timely manner to attain profitability.
  • Review bid packages from estimators for final submission.
  • Provide clear and unambiguous estimating data, including drawings, specifications, and labor hours.
  • Formulate site requirements and exclusions for bids.
  • Evaluate project scope changes and review field change orders.
  • Determine pricing adjustments for overtime, delays, and special requirements.
  • Develop RFQ/RFP documents for subcontractor proposals and vendor bids.
  • Lead internal kick-off meetings.
  • Prepare general conditions and terms for proposals.
  • Maintain project information flow and documentation.
  • Collaborate with Team Members for specific project sector needs.
  • Maintain and update the estimating database.


  • 4+ years of construction industry experience.
  • High School diploma or GED required; a Bachelor’s or Master’s in engineering or construction preferred.
  • Knowledge of construction industry and contract documentation.
  • Proficiency in Accubid, MS Word, and Excel.
  • Design-Build experience preferred.


  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiarity with Accubid, project management, and construction software.
